Today, the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) issued the following statement marking President Trump’s first 100 days in office under his second term.

“When Trump was inaugurated to a second term as president, he laid out an inhumane and contradictory vision for the future of our country and for the fate of immigrants living in the U.S. as our neighbors, coworkers, friends and family members,” CIPC Executive Director Masih Fouladi said. “After one hundred days in office, we can say without hesitation that Trump’s cruelty and incompetence has harmed not only countless immigrant families but everyone living in the country, whether they voted for him or not.

“The policies Trump has laid out on immigration, largely through executive orders, have not made our country stronger or safer. They only serve to undermine our democratic principles, weaken our economy and further erode trust in law enforcement. Just yesterday, Trump signed another set of executive orders demanding that states and cities across the country do his bidding on immigration enforcement and ordering the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department to provide a list of ‘sanctuary cities not complying with federal immigration laws.’ These orders do nothing but further terrorize already alienated and vulnerable immigrant communities.

“Trump’s zealotry on immigration has led to the deportations of U.S. citizen children, the expulsions of thousands of vulnerable people seeking asylum, the arrests of students exercising their right to free speech and the erosion of due process throughout the U.S. immigration legal system. It’s past time that we  collectively say, ‘enough!’ It’s time to rise up for immigrant rights!

“As we said at the beginning of Trump’s administration, CIPC will continue work with our partners to call on our state and local leaders to invest in programs that provide legal assistance to people at risk of detention and deportation, protect policies and programs that support immigrant communities, and continue to advocate for a California for All, regardless of one’s immigration status.”
